One of the hottest debates in Missouri involves the question of scientific research with stem cells using human embryos and cloned humans.

Embryonic stem cells – sometimes called “early stem cells” – can be gathered from embryos created by in vitro fertilization or from embryos created by cloning.

Human cloning for embryonic stem cell research creates embryos virtually identical to the donor. The cloned embryo’s stem cells are then harvested — a process that always destroys the embryo.
