Dr. Dobson helped us help our daughters get a good start in their marriages. When our daughters were approaching their teens, I took time to take each of them away for a special weekend to listen to the Preparing for Adolescence tapes and discuss the changes that were about to take place in their bodies and lives.
We also followed Dr. Dobson’s suggestion and purchased a small key charm, which we placed on a chain. Their father took each girl on a special dinner date and gave them the key in a gift-wrapped box. He explained that it was the key to their heart and challenged them to wear the key, and have it to present to their husband on their wedding day, a symbol of saving themselves for the one man they would commit to for the rest of their lives.
Each of our three girls wore the key through their teen years and freely shared its meaning. And, on their wedding day, as part of the ceremony, their father reminded them of the meaning of the key and presented it to their husband. The key and ceremony were a testimony to their promise and commitment to save themselves for one man and marriage.
These suggestions from Dr. Dobson helped three young ladies get a good start in married life without the physical, emotional and spiritual consequences of sexual involvement outside of marriage.
Thank you, Dr. Dobson.
